When visiting St. James, be sure to shop and dine in the downtown area. The historic downtown area is a hub of activity with its quaint shops, casual restaurants and businesses offering superior customer service to patrons.

The clean, neat and inviting image of downtown brings back memories of the past while encouraging future growth. Having recently completed over $300,000 of infrastructure improvements, sidewalks and lighting, the downtown area is a safe and fun environment for all visitors.

Additionally, the downtown area is home to several annual events, such as the Grape and Fall Festival Parade and Street Market, Gumball Festival and Christmas Parade.

Historic preservation is evident with the upkeep of Old City Hall. Old City Hall was constructed in 1896 and served as the City Hall until 1969. At that time, the James Foundation constructed a new city hall as a gift to the community. Currently, the Old City Hall is used as a city museum. If interested in touring the Old City Hall, please contact the St. James Tourist Information Center several days in advance at (573) 265-3899.

Special thanks goes to the City of St. James, St. James Chamber of Commerce, Beautify St. James, Phelps County Bank and private donations from downtown business owners for making this revitalization possible.
